The assessee was a property developer. For the A.Y. 2016-17, its case was selected for scrutiny for various reasons, one of which was large investment in property. The Assessing Officer stated in his order u/s. 143(3) of the Income-tax Act, 1961 that during the course of assessment proceedings the assessee submitted the details as called for and such details were examined. Thereafter, the Assessing Officer issued an initial notice u/s. 148A(b) on the basis of information from the Insight portal that the assessee had made an investment in a property on account of which income had escap
